Set Up a Self-Service Kiosk on Your Own Device
For a self-service kiosk to work properly with Elementary POS, you’ll need at least two devices.
Operator
Install the Elementary POS App on Your Kiosk
Supporting POS Device with the Elementary POS App
The supporting device handles card payments, prints receipts, and creates orders in the system. It must be an Android device with the Elementary POS app installed. You can use a tablet, smartphone, or another supported Android device. In the Elementary POS app, card payments must be activated and Kiosk Mode must be enabled: Menu -> Settings -> Kiosk Mode You can connect a supported payment terminal to the POS device, such as Comgate, mPoska, sumUP, Viva.com, or myPOS. Depending on the solution you use, a receipt printer may also be included. This supporting device receives the payment request from the customer-facing kiosk, starts the card payment through the connected terminal, prints the receipt, and creates the order in Elementary POS once the payment is successful. Place the device near the kiosk display so customers can easily pay by card after placing their order.
Customer-Facing Display Device (Kiosk)
The second device serves as the self-service kiosk your customers use. On this device, open a web browser and enter the link to your menu available in Elementary POS Office. Customers can then select products from the menu and submit their order. You can use virtually any touchscreen device that can display a web page, including devices running Windows, Linux, Android, or macOS. We recommend setting up the device so customers can’t leave the browser or switch to another app. You can do this using the device’s built-in kiosk mode.
These Two Devices Make Up One Self-Service Kiosk
One self-service kiosk consists of: – a supporting POS device with Elementary POS for payments, receipt printing, and order processing – a display device where customers select their products
How the Ordering Process Works
Customers select food, drinks, or other products on the display device. Once they submit the order, it is automatically sent to the supporting POS device running Elementary POS. The POS device then starts the card payment through the connected payment terminal. If the payment is successful, a receipt is printed and the order is created in Elementary POS. Customers can find their order number on the receipt. They can also track the status of their order by scanning the QR code on the receipt.
Recommended Third Device: Kitchen Order Display
For smoother operations, we recommend using an additional Android device, such as a tablet, as an order display for your kitchen or service staff. Once the order is paid for, it automatically appears in the kitchen, at the bar, or at another workstation, so your staff can start preparing it right away.
Optional Fourth Device: Customer Pickup Display
You can also use an additional device as a customer pickup display. It shows customers the numbers of active orders, so they can easily see when their order is ready for pickup.
