Are you using barcodes in Elementary POS? They can do much more for you than just speeding up marking sales items. We previously published an extensive article about what barcodes are and how they can benefit your business.
We have recently expanded the options for working with barcodes. Be sure to update Elementary POS to the latest version on all your devices first—you can do so in the Google Play Store. The newly added functions will only appear in the latest version of the application.
How do you access the new feature?
Go to: Elementary POS Main Menu > Settings > Barcode Scanner Settings.
After selecting “Enable barcode scanner,” you’ll see the newly added options to detect the weight encoded in the barcode assigned to the product.
In the barcode settings, you now have three new options, as shown in the image. The default option is “Barcodes without weight.” The other two options are “Decode weight from barcode” and “Decode weight from barcode and divide by 1000”. The weight in the barcode is typically in grams. Therefore, there is an option to divide the weight by 1,000 if the seller prefers to define the price of the goods in kilograms.
How does it work, and what are the benefits to your operation?
The seller places the goods on the scale, and the scale prints a barcode. This barcode is scanned by the Elementary POS system, which then automatically adds the specific item and its weight to the receipt. If you have a scale in your establishment that can weigh the sales items and generate a barcode, you can significantly speed up the sales process.
